1136 Transferable Belief Model Basic Belief Assignment

چکیده

This note is a very short presentation of the transferable belief model (TBM), a model for the representation of quantified beliefs based on belief functions. Details must be found in the recent literature. The TBM covers the same domain as the subjective probabilities except probability functions are replaced by belief functions which are much more general. The model is much more flexible than the Bayesian one and allows the representation of states of beliefs not adequately represented with probability functions. The theory of belief functions is often called the DempsterShafer’s theory, but this term is unfortunately confusing.

belief function and the transferable belief model

Beliefs are the result of uncertainty. Sometimes uncertainty is because of a random process and sometimes the result of lack of information. In the past, the only solution in situations of uncertainty has been the probability theory. But the past few decades, various theories of other variables and systems are put forward for the systems with no adequate and accurate information. One of these a...

Multiscale probability transformation of basic probability assignment

Decision making is still an open issue in the application of Dempster-Shafer evidence theory. A lot of works have been presented for it. In the transferable belief model (TBM), pignistic probabilities based on the basic probability assignments are used for decision making. In this paper, multiscale probability transformation of basic probability assignment based on the belief function and the p...

28 The Transferable Belief Model ∗

Smets, P. and R. Kennes, The transferable belief model, Artificial Intelligence 66 (1994) 191–234. We describe the transferable belief model, a model for representing quantified beliefs based on belief functions. Beliefs can be held at two levels: (1) a credal level where beliefs are entertained and quantified by belief functions, (2) a pignistic level where beliefs can be used to make decision...

Target Identification Based on the Transferable Belief Model Interpretation of Dempster-Shafer Model. Pars II: Applications

This paper explains how multisensor data fusion and target identification can be performed within the transferable belief model, a model for the representation of quantified uncertainty based on belief functions. In the first part, we present the underlying theory. Here, we present some illustrative examples to clarify how we consider the transferable belief model should be used. Some simulatio...

Default reasoning and the transferable belief model

Except when explicitly stated, all belief functions used in this paper are simple support functions, i.e. belief functions for which only one proposition (the focus) of the frame of discernment receives a positive basic belief mass with the remaining mass being given to the tautology. Each belief function will be described by its focus and the weight of the focus (e.g. m(A)=.9). Computation of ...
